Elkem's SOMA project, in collaboration with project partners, has developed a new specialized iron-silicon powder for 3D printing of electrical motor components.

This innovative powder aims to enhance manufacturing efficiency and reduce material consumption compared to traditional methods that involve cutting metal sheets and molding. By addressing common industry challenges like the fragility and susceptibility to breakage of large motor components, it offers improvements to the motor parts manufacturing process. The project is currently in the small-scale production phase to assess the feasibility of future commercial production of this product.
